Sony’s Scott Steinberg is not happy with Nintendo’s success. He believes Nintendo is focusing on small market segments. That sounds funny, at least to me. How come focusing a small market segment will result to a lack of Nintendo Wii in stock? He said Sony will not follow the same strategy to cover the market. They don’t want to focus only the senior citizen group to get into gaming. Scott in his interview said that Sony is planning to launch Blu-ray movies and Blu-ray games. Their focus is PS2 gamers and all those gamers who play games on DVDs. Very soon they will play games with their PS3. Does that not mean leaving a good and strong segment and getting into new market? If Nintendo made senior citizen their only target then keeping Nintendo Wii in stock would not have been a problem.
On the other hand Bungie and Microsoft have different attitudes towards Nintendo. They appreciate the technology used by Nintendo.Bungie and Microsoft together have come out with many games like Halo. Report says that now none of Bungie’s games will release on Xbox 360. Wow! That means no more learning of ten different buttons for one game.
During an interview Bungie’s lead AI programmer, Damian Isla, agreed that his company is working on other software systems. He says,” we are working on Xbox 360 with Microsoft, but nothing is sure for future.” He is impressed with the Wiiware and showed interest in it. He appreciated the company, Nintendo for coming out with casual Wii. Two contradict statements confuse a person. What I believe is Nintendo Wii has been successful in the market. According to the second quarter sales figures Nintendo Wii is the highest sold out software. No wonder, we never find Nintendo Wii in stock. Every company focuses on making money so why Sony is thinking differently?
