Its All Music 01/19/2009

The Nintendo Wii seems to have a knack for sub-par Wii-exclusive music games. To be honest, it's the better of the three but that's not saying too much. The first thing I noticed was that the menu system felt awkward and was difficult to navigate -- especially once I had made my band. And making the band wasn't all that great, either.

Once I figured out where to go to actually play the game, I was treated to a pretty good assortment of songs from big-name artists including The Jonas Brothers and The All American Rejects. Many of the tracks are the original recordings, too. Playing the songs, though, proved less pleasurable. The top-down view of the notes was nothing special and the band itself ironically lacked pop.

The UK video games market as a whole recently reported a 23 percent rise in software sales in 2008, with total hardware and software revenues of £4.034 billion ($6.071bn) for the year. The same data also showed Nintendo registering almost 40 million software units sold across the Wii and Nintendo DS.

Mario Kart Wii was released in April and has remained in the top ten ever since -– except when hit by frequent supply constraints. The game also enjoyed a four-week run at the number one spot in the individual platform chart over Christmas. The second best-selling individual platform game of 2008 was Wii Fit. Indeed, all top five selling games are Nintendo platform exclusives, with Wii Play at number three, Brain Training (aka Brain Age) for DS at number four (even though it released in June 2006) and Sega co-production Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for Wii at number five.

Nintendo’s Wii hardware’s average resale value has gone down to $250 in comparison to the resale price in the same period in 2007 which was $469. This is a dramatic drop in the price level. The console’s resale price has gradually gone down since last year’s holiday season. However, there was a slight rise in June 2008 in price level. According to pricing data site, Game Price Charts, the system is reselling on sites such as eBay and Amazon for $250 or else known as the Wii’s list price. Still the price of the Wii Fit is quite high on the site than what it is in the stores.

There have been predictions in the drop in the resale price which is presumably due to an increase in supply. Nintendo has made an increased production more than last year’s production to meet the demands but ahead of the holiday season.
