Gamers in Japan get an early jump at Super Mario Galaxy, which could be the defining game for the Nintendo Wii. It's already getting perfect reviews. However, people didn't go crazy for Super Mario Galaxy over in Japan because there were no long lines for it.

Despite this, Nintendo still sold a respectable 130,000 in the first day. It's not bad considering how little Nintendo has been marketing it over there, but it really should be higher. Super Mario Galaxy is the first major release of Mario since Mario 64. There have been a lot of minor Mario games in between, but this is the real deal.

The positive is that Mario games still sell well long after they are released. Hopefully, reviews will increase the purchase rate.

Nintendo Wii has come out with interesting virtual console games this week. If you don't know, Nintendo Wii lets you download older games for systems like NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and others. They only charge a nominal fee in terms of Wii points, which can be bought for $20 for every 200 points.

The games are Alien Solider, which came out for the Mega Drive. It only costs 800 Wii points. My personal favorite of the bunch is Art of Fighting for the Neo Geo. It costs 900 Wii points, but it is such a classic video game. The other two games are Samurai Ghost for Turbografx and Sonic 3D for mega drive.

The hottest games in American are not always the same games as the ones in other countries. For example, America has a fascination with rockers so there is no surprise that Guitar Hero II tops the charts right below Wii Play. Then again I don't think Wii Play counts because it includes a Wii remote.

In Japan, the top games are Super Mario Galaxy which is no surprise since it just came out there and Wii Sports. Fortunately, Wii sports comes for free on American consoles.

In the UK, they seem to love Big Brain Academy for Wii. Are they trying to get smarter or something? My parents are doing all the shopping over there.
